Why Choose Us
Quality, trust, and community at the heart of everything
Our Story
We are Kristy and Johnny Boyd, the husband and wife team behind Rise Artisan Bakery Ventura. We are both Ventura natives, and for us, this community is home. It always has been.
What started as a passion for baking and hospitality in our home kitchen, has grown into a local business that seeks to build closer connections, foster friendships among neighbors, and contribute to the strength of our hometown. We're committed to bringing you the same quality and care that we put into every loaf that we make for our own family.
How and why we started Rise Artisan Bakery Ventura:
I (Kristy) was diagnosed with a severe and painful facial nerve disorder called Bilateral Trigeminal Neuralgia in 2019, and life has been markedly different since. I have fought through two brain surgeries and all that comes with it, trying my best to maintain full time employment in a fast paced legal environment. During a period of medical disability in 2025, I was let go from a high paying, but high stress job. I also found out my mom has a serious medical condition that would require assistance.
We realized we'd need to pivot but we weren't sure how. During this time, my stress, panic attacks and insomnia were worse than ever, and I started baking sourdough bread again as a means of dealing with that stress. The tactile sensation helped immensely. I began baking yeasted breads, cinnamon rolls and French bread around 2010, and took up sourdough during the covid craze. So I decided to put my skills and knowledge to the test again. At that moment, we didn't realize it would lead to a microbakery. But it did.
Friends, family and neighbors began asking about the bread. When would it be ready? Was there any left? And that's how Rise Artisan Bakery Ventura was born.
